With Gulsin Onay, celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Independence Movement of the Republic of Turkey (1919) in Chicago (2019).
As the 100th Anniversary of the beginning of the Independence Movement for the Republic of Turkey, we celebrated this important historical threshold with one of Turkey's most prolific and international women virtuoso in Western Classical music in Chicago on May 19th, 2019. Following her recitals in Minnesota, Toronto, Washington DC, her marvelous performance embraced everyone in this city. Graduated from Paris Conservatory at the age of 16 with the prestigious "Premier Prix du Piano", today, her international career has spanned 72 countries across all continents, from Venezuela to Japan, with performances at the leading music centers of the world. Our Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Chicago has promised us that he would do his best to bring us with Gulsin's concert in the US/Chicago again and we are looking forward to listen to her amazing music again, and again...
There is no doubt that Gulsin's progressive and international career is a new chapter in the history of Western Classical music from Turkey. Following the steps of Ahmed Adnan Saygun (1907-1991), her teacher, and one of Turkey's most prominent composers, described in the Times obituary as the grand of man of Turkish music, who was to this country what Sibelius is to Finland, what de Falla is to Spain and what Bartok is to Hungary, Gulsin has built a fabulous career around the world through her feminine power and dismantled gender politics in highly competitive international arena of Western Classical music. Her career history should take its place in scholarly studies in her field, like Ahmed Adnan Saygun....
