Architecture Group-MACA will finalize the first phase of its climate action proposals at the group meeting in May. Following this milestone, members will begin implementing these initial climate action initiatives within their respective geographic contexts. Each climate action proposal has been developed through Zoom meetings and email exchanges during March and April, with a structured focus on the essential problem, pilot context, methodological framework, key focus areas, impact metrics, stakeholder engagement, project phases, and project timeline. The objective of the May meeting is to consolidate and finalize these proposals in preparation for moving into implementation.
Following the Group’s inaugural meeting in February, the climate action proposals under development include:
•United States
(Massachusetts): From Barriers to Action: Accelerating Passive House
Adoption
•Brazil: Concrete
Pathways to Climate-Resilient Cities: A Systems-Based Approach
•Syria: Climate
Action for Integrating Passive Design Principles into Post-Conflict Housing
Systems
•Türkiye (preparing to host COP31): Climate Intelligence in Action: A Translation Framework for the Built Environment, designed to encompass and connect the existing climate action initiatives of the Architecture Group.
Spanning scales from individual buildings to urban environments and implemented across diverse geographic contexts, these climate action initiatives reflect the Architecture Group’s commitment to advancing its work through engagement with qualified experts affiliated with MIT or among the MIT alumni community. Through this collaborative approach, the group aims to contribute meaningfully to the core climate missions of both MIT and MACA.
The Group invites all MIT alumni engaged in climate action, architecture and urban design—particularly graduates of MIT SA+P—to participate in its initiatives and to collaborate in the development of joint climate action projects for a better world.
